Hallelujah!”
Bert jolted awake at the
cacophony. Long-buried memories of gunfire and explosions assaulted him before
he oriented himself. Bert crept to the window and hesitantly peered outside. Carolers
adorned in a rainbow explosion of brightly coloured clothing were belting out
the song, pouring their souls into it.
‘Bah humbug.’ Bert muttered.
Once the performance concluded, the carolers milled about before realising
nobody was coming out to meet them and trudged away.
The spirit raged
against the protective circle around the town. It was about to concede when it
spotted a small gap. It smirked, knowing the covenant was broken.
